What a DUNS number is actually good for
1. Building business credit separate from you
D&B uses your DUNS to track:
Payment history with vendors (Net 30/60/90)
How often you pay on time or late
Credit risk scores (like PAYDEX)
When vendors, lenders, or some landlords check your business, they often pull D&B reports, not your personal credit.
So if you want:
Net-30 accounts
Higher vendor limits
Eventual no-PG (no personal guarantee) credit…
→ A DUNS is one of the main IDs that ties all that together.
2. Getting approved with vendors and suppliers
A lot of wholesale, office supply, shipping, and industrial vendors will:
Ask for your DUNS on the application.
Use it to:
Verify your business exists
Check whether you pay people on time
Decide your credit limit
In your world (Financial Strong, Inc. + future product-based plays), DUNS helps with:
Net-30 printer/ink vendors
Wholesale T-shirt suppliers
Packaging, merch, office supplies on terms instead of paying everything upfront

3. Looking legit to banks, partners & bigger companies
Some folks use the DUNS as a “does this business seem real?” check:
Banks
Large corporate partners
Some landlords / commercial leases
They can pull your D&B profile and see:
How long you’ve been in business
Public filings & registrations
Trade lines & payment history
So it’s part of your credibility armor when you want to level up beyond tiny hustler energy.
4. Government / corporate contracts & B2B deals
Historically, the U.S. government used DUNS heavily. Now they’ve moved to a UEI (Unique Entity Identifier) system for federal stuff — but DUNS is still widely used in the private sector and some big-company systems still ask for it.
You’ll still see DUNS used for:
Some grant applications
Corporate vendor portals
International trade and dealing with bigger companies
Think of it as:
“Do you exist in the global business database, or are you just vibes?”
5. Keeping your biz credit separate from your personal credit
This part is clutch:
Your EIN + DUNS + consistent business info (address, phone, etc.) =
A clean, separate business credit track.
That means:
You don’t always have to use your SSN for every little vendor account.
Over time, you can qualify for credit based more on the business profile than just you.
You still may need to use your SSN early on (PG on cards/loans), but the whole point of building biz credit is to shift that weight over time.
DUNS vs EIN vs UEI (quick clarity)
